The Influence of Shakespeare

William Shakespeare, the third of eight children, acclaimed English poet and playwright, husband and father.  Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18.  She was 26.  Together, they had three children (Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith).  Hamnet died at the age of 11.   A sad, yet ordinary life in the late 1500’s.

Almost 500 years later, we attribute Shakespeare to 154 sonnets, several poems, and 38 well known plays, including Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth, Julias Caesar, and Romeo and Juliet.  The writings of William Shakespeare influenced authors of following generations, including Charles Dickens and William Faulkner.   His use of language served to shape modern English — but did you know that over 20,000 musical compositions are attributed to the influence of William Shakespeare?
