Doing Small Things In Great Ways

31 07 2008

A spiritual battle rages all around us.  It’s here, every day,  and we stand on the front line of Good Vs. evil.  I always felt a calling to join the fight but I never could seem to find the battlefield.  I would see an evangelist on television spreading the good news of Hope.  I would read in the newspaper of those doing great work in charity.  I would hear of wealthy philanthropists giving tremendous amounts of money to research.  I watched Hospice workers doing what they do with such great devotion, but I never could find a way to become personally involved.

A wise friend recently reminded me that I could join the spiritual fight anytime - simply by helping someone in need, or by giving to the less fortunate, by offering an uplifting word to someone having a bad day, or by returning change miscounted by a distracted cashier.  Indeed, my friend was absolutely right!  There are many ways to join the spiritual fight.  Some will do great things in great ways.  Others will do great things in small ways.   What is important is that we ALL “do” something.

I urge you to heed the advice of my wise friend.  Join the battle in whatever way you can.  Preach the Gospel.  Donate to charity.  Visit the sick or simply offer a kind word to a total stranger.   Whatever you choose to do, prepare yourself.  God has given us the armor we need for any fight we might encounter along our journey.  Ephesians 6:10-13
